This is a wonderful old piece of Nazi fieldgear in excellent working condition. It is a mechanical siren which was made to be mounted on a staff car, command car, halftrack, tank or other vehicle and operated by cranking it by hand. It is easily mounted to a variety of surfaces and in fact this type of siren was common throughout the German Concentration Camp system. We took a picture of one recently in the Münchner Stadtmuseum (Munich City Museum) in Germany.

The siren is about 12 inches tall and has a flared bell about 7-1/2 inches in diameter. It weighs a little over 3 pounds, it is complete and it works fine.

The mechanism is tight and little used. It is marked on the back side with the name of the manufacturer, JURK, and the date 1940.

The fold-up spring-loaded bakelite hand grip has the word Ziehen (pull) on it and an arrow impressed in it on three sides. When pulled in the direction of the arrow, the handgrip can be rotated 180° in to the stowed or operating position.  It attaches to a fabric reinforced bakelite gear box that really gets the bakelite mechanism in the bakelite grill rotating. A spring loaded thumb lever on the left side of the siren allows the operator to adjust the tone or warble of the siren noise.

The stand, base plate and the handle are made of solid metal. The flared bell is stamped from sheet metal, and the gear case, hand grip and siren are made of bakelite.

An outstanding center piece to any collection of Nazi era field gear, Nazi police material or Nazi Concentration Camp items. Good used condition, as shown.
