This is the formal announcement by the family of Luftwaffe Feldwebel Rupprecht Wiedemann that he had died on 23 January 1945 during the Wehrmacht retreat in East Prussia, after eight years of faithful service during the German invasion of France and the Soviet Union. He was buried at the Soldier Honor Cemetery at Stolp in Pomerania. The card states that “our dearly loved last son followed his brother George in death”, so his parents Georg and Barbara Wiedemann lost two sons during World War II.

The card with a black Iron Cross at the top says the Wiedemann’s and their daughter Anne lived at Rosenheimerstraße 94 in Munich, on the same street as the Bürgerbräukeller, the starting point of the 1923 Nazi Putsch. The one-sided 105 x 148 mm (4-1/8 x 5-3/4 inch) card is dated 9 March 1945 and it announced a memorial service to be held on Sunday 18 March 1945.
