As in America and other countries, anyone in service to, or the recipient of an award from the Nazi government of Germany during the Third Reich, and particularly during World War II had a portrait made for family and loved ones. All of the portraits here were obtained in Germany in odd lots of photographs. Some had been removed from albums before we bought them but most had never been in an album. Most are not snapshots and are about postcard size on heavy photographic paper. They are NOT pictures that have been mechanically reproduced on a printing press or a photocopy machine. They are REAL Third Reich era photographs in the condition shown.

We have briefly identified the photo for what we believe it to be. Each photo has a number and if you wish to order one or more, please order by number. Virtually all these photos are one of a kind - we don’t have a stack of each print - so when they are gone, they are gone. Thanks for your understanding.

Pt19: left is a deckle edge Third Reich postcard size portrait of a young woman in a Luftwaffe jacket and cap with a Luftwaffe eagle on her tie. The picture is inscribed on the back with the date Kriegsjahr 1943.

Pt5b: This is a 3-1/2 x 5-1/2 inch straight edge Third Reich postcard size portrait of two men on the terrace outside a building in the mountains. One is a police officer in full uniform with visor cap and riding breeches, and the other looks like a Gestapo agent in civilian clothes.

Pt3: left is a 3-1/2 x 5-1/2 inch straight edge Third Reich postcard size portrait of a Luftwaffe General addressing an assembly in front of a barracks somewhere. In handwriting on the back is the word Meyer.

Pt11: right, a straight edge Third Reich postcard size portrait of three young men in full SS uniforms, flat caps, boots and gaiters. The man on the right with the Black Wound Badge has a cuff title which says Theodor Eicke on it. The photo has been carried in a wallet and has small cracks at the edges. It is marked on the back Foto J. Dalfauro Sterzing and the handwritten number 14860.

Pt25: right - a Kriegsmarine sailor sporting a "Donald Duck" hat and a machinist patch on his uniform sleeve. The deckle edge postcard has the name of a Photo Studio in Brugge, Belgium stamped on the back.

Of7: left, a straight edge Third Reich postcard size portrait of a Wehrmacht officer (Hauptmann) in a beautiful tailor-made Nazi tunic and visor cap, complete with Iron Cross and ribbon bar on his chest. Photographer name Jobst, printed on Agfa photo paper, blank back.

Pt14: right - two deckle edge Third Reich photographs of a German Oberleutnant Herman Ritter von Schöppl-Sonnwalden and his mother. Picture left (taken at Christmas 1939) shows he was already awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class. The photo on the right was taken on 3 April 1943 in München, and contains handwritten notes on the back about service in the Afrikakorps in Tunesia in 1943. Schöppl-Sonnwalden is also wearing the Iron Cross 1st Class and a Close Combat Badge.

SS17: right - a genuine Third Reich photo portrait of a SS-Unterscharführer with a Close Combat Badge above his Iron Cross 1st and 2nd Class, Silver Wound Badge and Infantry Assault Badge on his breast pocket.

Pt9: right - a deckle edge Third Reich postcard size portrait of Nazi police officer in a greatcoat with a whip in his hand. His cap has a police eagle on the front. He is wearing spurs on his tall boots.

SS26: left - a deckle edge portrait of a SS Oberscharführer. There is a skull next to the pip on the shoulderboard and he has a SS collar tab as well. Pinned on his breast pocket are his Infantry Assault badge, Wound Badge and Iron Cross 1st Class, and a ribbon bar above it. Blank back.

Pt8: left - a deckle edge portrait of young SS Totenkopf Rottenführer with a skull on his uniform collar. The portrait was made by Salzburg photographer Rudolf Resatsch. The is an "In memory of" message written on the back in Sütterlin Schrift and the birth date 18 May 1920 and "gefallen" date 22 May 1942.

LH 4: left - a photo portrait of young member of the Luftwaffe taken at a Photo Atelier in Halle. A green ink notation on the back says June 1941, in memory of Hansl.

L2: above & right - three photos of the same man: during his wedding (above), with his wife (right) and wearing an army overcoat (above right). The photo above right has a handwritten message from "Willy" on the back, dated March 1942. This portrait was once in a photo album and has some black glue residue on the back.
