| This is an absolutely original 5-7/8 x 7-7/8 inch (folds to 3-15/16 x 5-7/8 inch), tan, rip-stop identity document dated 1939 for a medical student from Würzburg named Benno Illsung, at the Ludwig-Maximilian University in München (Munich). The heavy paper used in this Ausweis has a layer of coarsely woven fabric laminated between two layers of tan paper so that it will not rip when folded and unfolded repeatedly. The ID shows Illsung and was signed by him, as well as being properly endorsed by the medical department of this famous university. Very hard to find and in nice condition, this Nazi era Ausweis is from the collection of Ray & Josephine Cowdery, authors of the full-color Third Reich identity document guidebook, “Papers Please!” |
