NAZI CHINESE IDENTITY DOCUMENT TIENTSIN 1938

AT TIENTSIN, CHINA IN 1938
This may be the only remaining example of a commercial Ausweiskarte or identity document issued by the Deutsches Generalkonsulat or German General Consul at Tientsin, a Japanese occupied city on the banks of the Peihao River in China.

This extremely rare, four-panel document measures about 4-1/4 x 6 inches (folds to 3 x 4-1/4 inches). The front panel bears an eagle and swastika above a triangular Nazi banner in red, black and white. The words DEUTSCHES GENERALKONSULAT TIENTSIN AUSWEISKARTE appear in German and Chinese beneath the document number 00114.
Deutsches Generalkonsulat Tientsin
The red stamp in a box on three of the four panels confirms that Gerhard Neelmeier was identified and registered at the Japanese Consulate.

The two inside panels identify and show Neelmeier, a salesman residing at 111 Woodrow Wilson Street in Tientsin, and the ID is dated 23 December 1938. The information typed on a Japanese typewriter under Neelmeier's picture is the same information shown in German on the page facing the picture.

Nazi eagle and swastika
A blank space at the bottom of panel 2 bears the consular stamp and the photo of Gerhard Neelmeier on panel 3 is impressed with the consular seal.

Panel 4 of this Nazi ID bears the same red Japanese consular stamp that appears on panel 1 and panel 3.

An exceptionally rare Nazi Ausweis in very good original condition.
