| This is a nice complete cam adjusted variable pitch aluminum propellor unit mounted on an oak base. The cone of the propellor is made in three pieces and measures about 6 inches long by 2-1/4 inches in diameter. The adjustable pitch blades measure 9 inches across. We have no idea how this or any other similar mechanical thing works. We bought it recently in Munich because we were fascinated with it. Looking into the hole opposite the pointed end one can see a cam which when pressed by some part of the torpedo mechanism apparently adjusts the pitch of the propellor blades and thus the speed of the torpedo. To the right and slightly below the hole in the flat end (at the 5 oclock position) is a small stamped eagle and swastika (visible in the picture on the right), and above it the letter P in a V. Very good condition. |
