Adolf Hitler Youth Hostel in Berchtesgaden
Heimstätten des deutschen Sozialismus, 1936, Reichsverband für deutsche Jugendherbergen e.V
The 1936 book says the German Youth Hostel Organization is the largest in the world and growing occupancy numbers show that the demand is great and there are not yet enough facilities available.

In the foreword Johannes Rodatz (head of the Reichsverband für deutsche Jugendherbergen) also states that “our youth hostels can not always be the cleanest places to spend the night, but that in spite of that they should be considered the central point of the youth culture” in Nazi Germany. They should not simply be considered a place to stay after a day of hiking, but also be thought of as a facility to hold youth meetings and educational events for young Germans.

1936 Nazi youth hostel book, Adolf Hitler Jugendherberge Berchtesgaden
According to Rodatz, the recently constructed youth hostels are convenient, comfortable and blend into the local scenery, and while more modern, tradition is not forgotten. The text also suggests that financial help for the German Youth Hostel Organization would improve the life of countless young German boys and girls. “More youth hostels means fewer hospitals will be necessary later” and that political education of the German youth would create more unity which will “lead to an everlasting Third Reich.”
The 6-3/8 x 9 inch, 16 glossy page booklet has a list of the youth hostels constructed in 1936. They include the Adolf Hitler Jugendherberge in Berchtesgaden, the Baldur-von-Schirach-Jugendherberge in Urfeld on the Walchensee, the Franz-Xaver-Schwarz-Jugendherberge in Titisee and others in Fallersleben, Greifenhagen, Wiesbaden, Kottbus, St. Goar, and many other places. There is also a list of youth hostels where the foundation stones have already been placed.

There are many exterior and interior photos of these new Jugendherberge as well as the occupancy numbers of many. There is also information about vouchers for youth hostels.
The cover of Heimstätten des deutschen Sozialismus has a rare picture of the Adolf Hitler Youth Hostel in Berchtesgaden. This heavily illustrated 1936 publication by the German Youth Hostel Organization also introduces many other new youth hostels “opened in the service of the young Nation”.
