Always adaptable, the citizens of the French capital of Paris were very quick to surrender to the Germans in 1940, and even quicker to make sure there was a guidebook of the city in the language of the occupiers!

Now very hard to find, ,,DER DEUTSCHE WEGLEITER’’ (The German Guidebook) measures about 5-1/4 x 8-1/4 inches with 104 heavily illustrated pages packed with all the latest information.

There is information and articles regarding Soldaten Cinemas, Parisian flea markets, The Soldier’s Home in Paris, sports, German films in Paris, the Paris subway system, the Louvre, etc., etc.

There are big, bold German language display ads for all the large nightclubs like the Lido, Moulin Rouge, Maxims, Gypsies, Jockey, Paradise, Femina, Concert Mayol, Chez Elle, Cabaret Amiral, Paris-Paris, Cabaret Florence, Cabaret Monico, Tabarin, Don Juan, Le Grand Jeu, Chez Eve Oh-la-la, Mimi-Pinson, etc.

For the discriminating Wehrmacht Landser in Paris there was an ad for the portrait studio Nicolini and Studio Harcourt.

There are ads for gifts to send home to Germany from companies like Elizabeth Arden, Nina Ricci, Marcel Rochas, Odette Colson, etc. The book originally sold for 25 Pfennigs or 4 Francs on the streets of Paris.
