During the Third Reich in Germany there was a second great institution on the Platzl in München besides the Hofbräuhaus Beer Hall. It was the Hacker Beer Fun Hall run by Matthias and Emilie Lettner. Their great attraction were a typical Bavarian farmer singer / yodeler / band / chorus / variety show called the Dachauer Bauernkapelle from nearby Dachau and stand-up comic Weiß Ferdl who was also the entertainment director. His real name is Ferdl Weiß-Weisheitinger of Adolf-Hitler-Strasse 6 in the Munich suburb of Solln.
Every evening the performance in this place consisted of jokes, songs, amusing acts and sing-along music accompanied by seas of local Hacker beer. During the Third Reich the Platzl was filled to overflowing with soldiers stationed in and around München and visitors to the Bavarian capital. Weiß Ferdl, the comic (his name also means white horse), thrilled the audience with comic impressions of hillbillies, priests, monks, soldiers and others.
The larger of the two brochures offered here measures 6 x 8-1/2 inches and contains 12 pages of advertising interspersed with the program for the second quarter of the year 1938. There are advertisements from hat shops, clothing shops, car dealers, as well as ads from the Nazi NSV, the IG Farben company Indenthren and Loden-Frey. Good used condition.
The smaller of the two brochures measures 4-1/2 x 6 inches and contains 20 pages of lyrics to well-known German sing-along songs, altered lyrics to funny songs, photos of Weiß Ferdl and his crew, and a dictionary of strange and humorous Bavarian words that visitors to Munich needed to know. Very good condition.
