Examples of spectacular Nazi Schutzpolizei officer's uniforms like this one may be seen in major historical references such as the Arthur Hayes book "SS Uniforms, Insignia & Accoutrements", the Robin Lumsden book "SS Regalia", and others.
This uniform is an original; a complete set from a single person and is NOT assembled from parts of several uniforms.
We do not believe this uniform has ever been photographed before.
|
| THE SHAKO is German size 56 (about 7-1/8) and is in splendid condition. The lining is clean and tight with only a short split in the leather sweat band on the right side.
THE KOKARDE is perfect as are the front and back visors, the chin strap, eagle, body and even the white horse hair plume. The plume is still retained to the left chin strap button by original white elastic, not replaced elastic.
THE TUNIC is spectacular, showing almost no wear. It was tailor-made of fine police doeskin material by Roger Kauert Company of Berlin, Hamburg, Dresden and Iserlohn. The tunic has three studs for a white collar, is fully lined in heavy grey-green satin with striped lining in the sleeves. There is a left inside breast pocket and a slit under the flap of the left bottom pocket for a bayonet hanger. The sleeve eagle, collar tabs and shoulder boards are first quality. There are loopes for a medal bar above the left breast pocket, for the Kriegsverdienstkreuz on the pocket and for a decoration below the pocket.

| This uniform was made for a man about 5 feet 6 inches tall weighing about 130 pounds. The measurement across the shoulders, from sleeve to sleeve, is 18 inches, from shoulder board to cuff is 24-1/2 inches, and from the top of the collar to the bottom of the back of the coat is 28-1/2 inches. |
|
|
|
|
| The heavy-soled leather BOOTS are 17-1/2 inches tall in a size about 9-1/2 (the length of the sole is 11-3/4 inches). They are soft, supple and still have a nice polish. The heals are marked OK 173. The top 6 inches is lined. |

THE CROSSBELT is excellent and the leather cartridge box is in very, very good condition.
THE BELT is 45 inches long, is woven metallic material sewed to a green doeskin backing and still has its original RZM manufacturer's label. An SS rune-oak leaf motif is woven into the metallic threads.
THE BUCKLE is RZM and DRGM marked. The maker is M4/22 (Christian Theodor Dicke, Lüdenscheid). The black leather length adjusting tab is stamped 130.
THE SUSPENDERS are completely unmarked. They are made of adjustable elastic material with white pebble-grained leather attachments, correct for police.
THE TROUSERS are riding style with legs that button at the bottom and a waist measuring about 35 inches. There is a metal ring sewed to the right front above a small pocket for the officer's identity disk. The fly has 5 buttons and there is an adjustable buckle-belt across the back. One suspender button is missing.
We can find no name or identification in the uniform anywhere. It is very well made and overall it is in wonderful condition.

To mention the drawbacks directly, they are:
1) One missing suspender button on the back of the trousers. The trousers could use a cleaning.
2) One tiny moth hole on the inside of the crossbelt.
3) Although little worn, the brocade belt has 5 or 6 spots where the material is cracked, apparently from rolling the belt for storage.
IN SPITE OF THE 3 POINTS MENTIONED ABOVE, this uniform is in better condition than similar uniforms shown in any of the reference books we have been able to find.
