ENVELOPE - BERLIN 1942
| This is a very interesting 6-1/4 x 8 inch tan envelope sent by registered mail on 8 June 1942 through the German Service Post System in Prag (Praha, Prague) in the German Protectorate of Böhmen und Mähren (Bohemia and Moravia) in the former country of Czechoslovakia. Please note that destination to which the envelope was sent contains no street address or city, but is entirely in service code (GL 1 VI RVL). |

| Cancelations on the back of the envelope show that it reached Berlin on 9 June 1942.
Coincidentally, SS General and Chief of the Sicherheitsdienst (SD) Reinhard Heydrich died of an assassin's wound in Prag on 4 June and was being buried in Berlin on 9 June 1942 when this letter arrived.

The black rectangular stamp on the front is not the destination address but the receiving stamp of Reichsmarschall Hermann Görings Luftfahrtministerium showing that the envelope arrived at its destination within 24 hours of being mailed in Prag. You can not do better than that today in the age of jets!
The envelope is opened along the bottom and right edge. Very good condition. |
