,,UNSERE REICHSAUTOBAHNEN’’ (OUR STATE MOTOR ROADS)

This is an excellent example of the popular Third Reich ,,Quartettspiel’’ or card game called ,,Unsere Reichsautobahnen’’ (Our State Motor Roads). The 42 cards in the 3-1/2 x 5-1/8 inch box, 1-3/8 inches thick, are divided into 12 sets of four each making it easy to play a variety of card games with different numbers of players.

Quartet card games were very popular with soldiers as well as with the civilian population of the Germany of Adolf Hitler. This set originally contained 48 cards, but cards 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 and 2.1 and 4.2 are missing.

Each of the cards in this set shows a 2-1/4 x 3 inch picture of a scene on the Reichsautobahn in Germany (card 2.3 shows German Chancellor Adolf Hitler in a huge open Mercedes-Benz automobile opening the Frankfurt - Darmstadt section of the new German freeway) and a caption below it explains the picture.

The picture on the cover of the box shows a stretch of Autobahn with exits for a gasoline filling station and a rest area. Quartet card games were manufactured by a company called ISM. The Reichsautobahn quartet game is so hard to find, that it is highly collectible even with six of the original 48 cards missing.
