This is a very nice example of the rare Schönstein Raumbildwerk book Großdeutschlands Wiedergeburt - Weltgeschichtliche Stunden an der Donau (The Rebirth of Greater Germany - Historic Hours Along The Danube) by Dr. Karl Bartz. This 88-page, 8 x 11-1/2 inch hardcover book was published in Wien (Vienna) in 1938 at the direction of Arbeitsgemeinschaft Wiener Neueste Nachrichten, Südwestdeutsche Verlagsgesellschaft m.b.H. with an introduction by Hermann Göring.
Schönstein Raumbildwerk (Three Dimensional Picture Publishers) books were unique in that they contained photographic stereo-view cards and a fold-up metal device with which the cards could be viewed.
If you are not familiar with this Nazi three-dimensional book, you need to know that it consists of a well-written text by Dr. Karl Bartz on the subject of the liberation of and reunification with Austria by Nazi Germany. There is a full-page, full-color portrait of both Adolf Hitler and Hermann Göring in the text as well as six other full-page plates depicting significant people and material from the
Anschluß.
The special covers of this album are about 1/2-inch thick and are die-cut with six cavities that hold 120 special
Heinrich Hoffmann and Raumbild Verlag 3-D stereo photographs (real photographs - NOT halftone prints) and the nickel plated metal viewer with glass lenses that is set up to view the photographs (missing in this album). The 120 stereo photos each measure 2-3/8 x 5 inches and have a full description of the subject printed on the back. When seen in the viewer each picture is incredibly three-dimensional, almost as if the scene was being viewed in real life.
We know of no other way for a history buff to observe a three-dimensional view of the house in which Hitler was born in Braunau, the grave of Hitler's parents in Leonding, Hitler's huge Mercedes-Benz car or the triumphal entry of Hitler into Austria in March 1938.

This rare and historic Raumbild 3D Third Reich photo book "The Rebirth of Greater Germany" is hardbound in red imitation leather with gold blocking on the covers and the spine. It is complete with all color and black & white pictures but the metal viewer is missing. Not a problem if you have another Raumbild 3D book as one viewer will work with all the pictures. The original instructions on how to use the metal viewer are still there (see photo left).
The bottom 2 inches of the front of the spine is cracked (see picture of cover at the top of this web page), but otherwise this Raumbild album is in excellent used condition. GUARANTEED to be absolutely authentic historical Third Reich material over 70 years old.
Naturally, the subject of the
Anschluß is rather broad in its scope. Among the 120 three-dimensional views are Hitler's triumphal entry into Austria, cheering crowds welcoming him, replacing Dollfuß Platz street signs with Adolf Hitler Platz street signs, marching Hitler Youth and SA formations, huge crowds in Salzburg, Hitler in his rail car, Hitler and his entourage (including Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler and SS-General Reinhard Heydrich), Gauleiter and Reichskommissar Josef Bürckel, battle damage at the Marxhof, graves of Nazi heroes, the arrival of Rudolf Hess, Hilfszug Bayern in Wien, Reichsstatthalter Seyss-Inquart, etc., etc.
