This is a small but very rare and important book of photographs of the New German Reichschancellery as built in 1938 for Adolf Hitler. Unlike the big book of the same title published by Franz Eher Nachfolger in München (Munich), the Nazi Publishing House, this one has only three pages of text by architect Albert Speer and sixty full-page photos of the magnificent building and its contents.
Kanter-Verlag published this book to fill the demand for an inexpensive souvenir book on the Reichschancellery in Berlin for visitors to the German capital. The business of the Königsberg company was publishing small but concise guidebooks on the subjects of art and architecture. They published other other volumes on the work of sculptor Arno Breker, the painter Rubens, Albrecht Dürer, etc. and this book was number 29 in their series.
The full-page photos in the 4-5/8 x 6-1/4 inch book depict all the important aspects of Professor Albert Speer’s most important work. There are photos of the east Voßstraße entrance with its huge eagle and swastika, front and rear facades, Thorak and Breker statues, Wilhelmplatz side, Honor Courtyard, Mosaic Hall, Marble Gallery, Round Hall, SS Guards, dining room, the garden, greenhouse, and many pictures of the Hitler Office.
The paper, photo quality and printing is excellent. This is by far the best example of this book we have ever encountered. It has probably never been read. Impossible to upgrade!
