This is an unusual Third Reich book called Festtage im lieben alten Nürnberg or Holidays in Dear Old Nuremberg.
This 4-5/8 x 8-1/8 inch, 40 page heavily illustrated soft cover book tells the story of Engelbrecht Knoll visiting the historical city of Nuremberg during Nazi Party Days, in poems by Pausala accompanied by funny cartoon-like illustrations by Albert Rabenbauer.
From Knoll packing his suitcase, to arrival at the Nuremberg railway station, to finding his quarters in a private home (most average visitors to the Nazi Party Days were housed in private homes as all hotels were expensive and fully booked months or years in advance by Nazi dignitaries), eating in a beer hall with fellow visitors, seeing the historical sights of the city accompanied by the daughter of his host, etc.
There are poems and illustrations about seeing the HJ and RAD parade through town, experiencing the NSDAP Political Leaders gathering at the Zeppelinfeld, Hitler's speech and the huge fireworks following the appearance of the Führer. The excitement of Der große Tag, The Big Day, when hundreds of thousands of SA, SS and HJ members marched to the sounds of drums to the Luitpoldhain where Adolf Hitler spoke, is well covered. After the speech, the march to Adolf Hitler Platz in the center of Nürnberg, the "most beautiful square of Greater Germany", decorated with Nazi swastika flags and wreaths is described.
This undated booklet was produced in cooperation with the Office of the Mayor of Nürnberg, with wonderful drawings by Albert Rabenbauer. It was printed by Volkhardt & Wilbert of Nürnberg.
This book is much rarer than most of the souvenir books produced to sell during the Third Reich and especially for the hundreds of thousands of visitors to the annual Reichsparteitage or Nazi Party Day rallies in Nuremberg. Most of them were taken home in suitcases or rucksacks and therefore show finger prints and wear, just like this one. It is rare, complete and in good used condition.
