Nazi eagle and swastika
THE THIRD REICH
RÜCKSTELLUNGSAUSWEIS
FOR A GERMAN BUTCHER
RETURNING FROM
OCCUPIED HOLLAND
TO NAZI GERMANY
This is a very rare Nazi Rückstellungsausweis or Repatriation identity document issued in Den Haag (The Hague), the Netherlands by the Reichskommissar for Occupied Holland on 3 January 1945 to allow a German butcher, J. Breas, to return to Germany.
German Military Commander Generaloberst Student
Following the Allied paratrooper assault on German Occupied Holland in September 1944 (Operation Market Garden) and the failure of the German Von Rundstedt or Ardennes Offensive (Battle of the Bulge) in December 1944, all non-essential German civilian personnel in Holland were evacuated to Germany. Fleischer Breas was issued this Nazi identity document to allow him to pass through German Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS troop formations on his way out of Holland.
Nazi eagle Swastika stamp This Rückstellungsausweis bears Breas’ personal ID number G41/046474, a stamp from the Arbeitseinsatz (Labor Department), as well as the facsimile signature of the German Military Commander Generaloberst Student and the date December 1944 on the back panel. The 3-panel document measures 4 x 5-1/2 (folds to 2-3/4 x 4) inches.
Examples of this rare Rückstellungsausweis are virtually unobtainable. This document is in very good condition and is from the collection of Ray and Josephine Cowdery, authors on many books on Third Reich subjects including the full-color identity document book, "Papers Please!"
