OFFICE REGARDING CERTIFICATES OF GOOD CONDUCT
FOR JEWS

This is a very good original two-sided A4 size (8-1/4 x 11-5/8 inch) letter dated 3 June 1941 on the letterhead of the office of der Reichsführer der SS und Chef der deutschen Polizei im Reichsministerium des Innern at Unter den Linden 74 in Berlin.

The letter was written to Reichsstatthalter Baldur von Schirach, the highest Nazi government authority in Wien (Vienna), regarding Certificates of Good Conduct for Jews who had lived or live in Wien, and who had applied for permission to emigrate.

This letter mentions the number of similar requests coming from Wien and says that they will all be dealt with in this letter in three separate groups:

Group 1: Certificates of Good Conduct are denied for Ernö Israel Braun, Sara Karniol born Spiegel, and Josef Israel Wittmann.

Group 2: the Foreign Office advised me on 22 May about the Jews Josef Israel Beer, Dr. Jakob Herzbaum, the Kreindl couple, and the Kurz couple, and you have told me the Israeli Cultural Community in Wien is already involved in these cases. Please direct these requests for Certificates of Good Conduct to me with notations about any legal problems, for further advancement. Be sure to inform me if you become aware of other non-aryans seeking Certificates of Good Conduct for purposes of emigration.

Group 3 (Individual Case): on 15 April I sent you a note from the Ministry of Justice regarding the Jew engineer Hans Israel Engler but I have had no response. You should deal with this matter and let me know if you involve the Israeli Cultural Community in the case.

The letter is signed for Dr. Kääb by a government secretary and stamped with a 1-3/8 inch purple eagle and swastika seal of the Kanzlei of the Chef der Ordnungspolizei in the Office of der Reichsführer der SS und Chef der deutschen Polizei im Reichsministerium des Innern.
