Rueckkehrer Ausweis + Deutsches Rotes Kreuz Personal-Ausweis
Chef der Sicherheitspolizei und des SD
Rückkehrer Ausweis Hertha Wittals
Rückkehrer Ausweis Nicolai Wittals
Deutsches Rotes Kreuz Personal-Ausweis or German Red Cross ID
RFSS Himmler
Adolf Hitler's government gave very special consideration to Germans and foreigners of German blood who wished to return to Germany and reclaim their citizenship in Grossdeutschland. These Rückkehrer or returnees were considered so special that on many occasions they were met personally by Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler or high ranking members of his staff (see photo right).

Documents for Rückkehrer were not issued by the German Government but by the Sicherheitspolizei department of the SD (Sicherheitsdienst or Nazi Security Service) after a careful background check had been completed.
The rare Rückkehrer Ausweise or "Returnee's Identity Documents" shown here are leinen documents measuring 5-3/4 x 8-3/8 inch and are numbered sequentially 009993 and 009994. They were issued to Nicolai and Hertha Wittals on 11 November 1939 at the SD Einwandererzentralstelle Nordost or Immigration Point Northeast at Posen (now in Poland). Nicolai Wittals was born in St. Petersburg Russia but had citizenship in Latvia. His profession is listed as carpenter. The Wittals came from Riga (Latvia) and had a one year old daughter, Gerda.

No occupation is listed in Hertha Wittals' Rückkehrer Ausweis, but she became a Red Cross nurse after settling in Schwaningen, about 6 miles east of Posen (from 1941-1943 there was a work camp for Jews called Sammellager Schwaningen, run by the RAD).

The original 3-1/4 x 4-3/4 inch 4-panel Deutsches Rotes Kreuz Personal-Ausweis or German Red Cross ID issued to Hertha Wittals on 19 April 1941 is also part of this original Nazi document grouping. The ID photo shows DRK-Helferin Wittals in her Red Cross uniform.

Third Reich identity documents issued by the SD are rare, especially since these were issued to a couple and have sequential numbers.

These three Nazi documents are in nice used condition and absolutely original to the Third Reich period. If you are a Nazi document collector, you would have a very difficult time upgrading to a better Nazi Rückkehrer grouping than this one.
The original photos of the Wittals' in their Rückkehrer Ausweise have the correct purple Der Chef der Sicherheitspolizei und des SD rubber stamps in the upper right hand corner and lower left hand corner.
