| This is a beautifully printed and bound 10 x 12 inch 88 page, heavily illustrated, limited edition hardcover Nazi book. According to information on the third page, it is a facsimile of the original book presented to Adolf Hitler, Führer and Chancellor of Germany, on the occasion of his 50th birthday by the Oberburgermeister of the city of the Reichs Party Days (Reichsparteitage), Nürnberg. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Hitlers 50th birthday occurred on 20 April 1939 and the mayor of the city presented him with the original of this book. A Reichsparteitag was scheduled for late summer 1939 in Nürnberg, but events in Poland caused it to be canceled before it began. Apparently, this book was printed in anticipation of presenting it at the Reichsparteitag. In any event, the second page of this book shows that it was presented by the Oberburgermeister of the city of the Reichs Party Days, Nürnberg, to SA Brigadeführer Georg Dechant. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The purpose of the book was to provide the Oberburgermeister with an opportunity to explain what a ,,Schatzkastlein (Little Treasure Chest) the city of Nürnberg had been for seven centuries, and what some very famous people had to say about it. Quotations from many notables decorate each page embellished by the superb artwork of Conrad Scherzer. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

There are also quotations from Walther von der Vogelweide, Tanhäuser, Martin Luther, Konrad Celtis, Hans Sachs, Goethe, Ludwig I of Bavaria, Friedrich Hebbel, Richard Wagner, and a considerable number from Adolf Hitler, as late as 1938. The entire contents is beautifully printed in inks of black and rust color on very heavy special paper. The hardcover binding consists of cream color leatherette covers and a genuine leather spine in dark brown, both with gold blocking. A very high quality rare book in excellent condition, presented to a very high ranking Nazi in the SA. |
