SS-FÖRDERNDE MITGLIEDER
ERNST HASTETTER
(page 2)

Hastetter Documents
The stack of letter size documents shown in our scan includes 27 items. All of them are related to Ernst Hastetter’s life, service and his attempt to leave his SS past behind him after the war.
There is his Nazi birth certificate from Weiden dated 1939, a very rare Diploma hand signed and sealed by the Lord Mayor of the Capital of the [Nazi] Movement, Nazi Reichsleiter and Blood Order Recipient, Karl Fiehler (right), a Certificate of Discharge from the Wehrmacht, Repatriation Certificate, a pass stamped by the Allied Military Government allowing Hastetter to travel by car and by foot (!) to Prunn, and completed Allied questionnaires regarding Hastetter’s SS affiliation and military service.

Those documents survived because Ernst Hastetter had to defend himself in court against charges he was a 3rd Level Nazi and a member of the Allgemeine SS, a criminal organization.

Hastetter accumulated letters of reference regarding his character from all the notable people he could find, including Catholic Priests, Doctors of Medicine, a Politician, a Professor and a Stage Photographer. Each wrote eloquently regarding Ernst Hastetter’s character, and he also wrote an excellent biographical letter for the court outlining his membership in the NSDAP and the SS-FM, his five years wartime service to his country, the death of his relatives in the war, his desperate situation, and he asked the court to reduce his classification from a 3rd Level Nazi to a 4th Level Nazi.

In its decision rendered on 29 December 1948, the Spruchkammer in München VII granted Hastetter’s request but found him guilty of being a 4th Level Nazi. A certified copy of the court’s judgment, fines imposed, etc. is included in this grouping.

Finally, an oblique but very interesting item in this grouping is the Nazi Arbeitsbuch of Hastetter’s wife, Klohilde Heihs Hastetter, a music teacher at several girls schools in München. It is enclosed in an envelope sent by the Oberbürgemeister to Mrs. Hastetter dated 6 April 1944.

This is a very rare 40 piece grouping of the most historic sort of material - the kind that only rarely comes up for sale. It is all in good to excellent condition. The rarest pieces - the SS-FM Membership Book and the NSDAP Membership Card - are both in excellent condition.
