This is a nice example of the rare 8-1/4 x 10-3/4 inch, 96 page very, very heavily illustrated First Edition hard cover book U-Boot auf Feindfahrt (Submarine on Enemy Patrol) by Dr. Harald Busch as published by Verlag C. Bertelsmann in Güttersloh, Germany in 1942.

Subtitled Bildbericht vom Einsatz im Atlantik (a Photo Documentary of a Mission in the Atlantic) this book records every aspect of the life of a German submarine crew hunting the enemy in the Atlantic in 1941. Huge clear photos and substantial captions detail the mission from the loading of food and supplies to casting off, cruising on the surface, operating below the surface, locating and torpedoing enemy ships, navigating, etc.

There are pictures of the interior and exterior of the U-Boot, the uniforms, quarters and equipment of the officers and men, and their triumphant return to home port. This is the best book of its type.
