This is an unusually rare lot of 37 issues of the magazine Die Umschau in Wissenschaft und Technik (the Review of Knowledge and Applied Sciences) published between 26 January and 22 November 1936 by H. Bechhold Verlagsbuchhandlung in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
Each 8-1/4 x 11-3/4 inch, very heavily illustrated issue of the rare technical news magazine is composed of 24 - 36 pages of the latest science and technology information. Some pages of the magazine also include advertising for products ranging from poison gas to high quality cameras and wine, binoculars, microscopes and atlases to books on race and sport, models, animals, etc.
The abundant photographic material in these 70+ year old heavily illustrated Nazi magazines is unique and the range of the technical content is both broad and deep.
There are articles in these thirty-seven magazines about German military steel and aluminum combat helmets, television, blood groups, splitting atoms, an incredible wonder child, Nanga Parbat, killing vermin with poison gas, bats, ....
.... weapons and ammunition, ballistics, tattoos, new cars and motorcycles, outdoor loudspeakers, projector for Raumbild 3-dimensional photos, gold mining, crime research, color film, gardening, Buna synthetic rubber, car phones, swindlers and liars, wood gas generators for trucks, the Reichsautobahn, shipping cars on boats, high-speed steam engines, the Swedish National Institute for Racial Biology, metal traffic stripes, ....
.... fencing technique, the Bambuta tribe in Africa, authenticating autographs, electric eyes, parachuting and its military implications, the Olympics from Olympia to Berlin, construction of the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco, etc.
Among the rare advertising in these Die Umschau magazines is a display ad for Cyanogas, some version of Zyklon B, manufactured by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Schädlingsbekämpfung, better known as Degesch. Leica, Contax and Ihagee Exakta cameras and their accessories are heavily advertised in these magazines .
One can go for many years without ever finding an issue of Die Umschau in Wissenschaft und Technik and here is an opportunity to purchase 37 examples in one lot. The overall condition of the magazines in this lot is very good. No strong odor and nothing missing, torn out or cut out.
