There is nothing negative in this publication about Germany or the prospects for reunification with Germany. Quite the contrary. The possibility is posed as the very best thing that could happen to Austria. The publication was certainly effective as over 95% of eligible Austrians voted and 99% of them voted for the Anschluss. Austria and its people became a small part of Hitler's Greater German Reich by their own choice.

Like the literature of all revolutions, this 8-1/4 x 11-1/2 inch, 16-page, very, very heavily illustrated magazine format publication was never intended to survive more than a few weeks. The propaganda publication called EIN VOLK EIN REICH EIN FÜHRER (One People, One Nation, One Leader) was clearly printed in Germany (although it does not say so anywhere on it) and heavily distributed in the country of Austria after the German occupation in March 1938.

The unquestionable purpose of the booklet was to show the might and power of Nazi Germany, the strength of National Socialism and the history of Adolf Hitler and his Third Reich in an effort to get Austrians to vote YES on union with Germany in an open plebiscite to be held on 10 April 1938. The booklet tells of the effort of the Allies at the 1919 Treaty of Saint Germain and Treaty of Versailles to prevent Germany from merging with any part of Austria and then reviews the critical days in March 1938 when the German Wehrmacht moved into Austria in the wake of the collapse of a very weak government.

This rare 85 year old publication was clearly set aside by someone who knew its historic value and appreciated its amazing graphics. As is obvious in the photos at the top of this USMBOOKS web page, it shows use but is complete and has no odor.
