This is a standard 4-1/8 x 6 inch, 32 page red hardcover Deutsche Arbeitsfront Mitgliedsbuch (Membership Book) for Erwin Reichert, a Mechaniker or Motor Builder, who was born in Cannstadt, Germany on 12 May 1904. It is in very good condition and includes pasted-in revenue stamps from 1935 through 1941 and ink employment stamps for 1942 through 1945.
Deutsche Arbeitsfront Mitgliedsbuch
Volkswagenwerk GmbH Stadt des KdF-Wagens
THE THINGS THAT MAKE THIS RATHER ORDINARY DAF MITGLIEDSBUCH UNIQUE AND DESIRABLE are the incredible places Reichert worked. The stamps from March 1940 through March 1941 are all overstamped with “Volkswagenwerk GmbH Stadt des KdF-Wagens” (above). A big rubber stamp on the page for 1942 shows that Reichert worked for “Volkswagenwerk GmbH Stadt des KdF-Wagens” for most of that year.
Other big rubber stamps on pages 21 and 22 (right) confirm that Reichert worked for Dr. ing. h.c. F. Porsche at Spitalwaldstraße 2 in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen from 25 November 1942 through 21 November 1944 when that factory was probably bombed out of existence. From 15 January 1945 through 31 March 1945 Reichert worked for Längerer & Reich, a radiator manufacturer. Porsche
Daimler-Benz Motoren GMBH Erwin Reichert had yet another automotive claim to fame. Page 10 (left) of this DAF Mitgliedsbuch is stamped three times by an earlier employer - Daimler-Benz Motoren GMBH - in Genshagen. He worked there from 1937 until he started at Volkswagen in 1940.
DAF revenue stamps
It is a virtual certainty that there is not another DAF Mitgliedsbuch existing anywhere today for a man that worked for the Third Reich Big Three - Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche! The 32-page book is complete right down to the unemployment benefits and sick pay received by Reichert. One of the very best!
