As fieldgear goes there is no more universal piece of soldier equipment than a canteen. In the German Armed Forces during the Third Reich, canteens came in a wide variety of styles and we made by many different manufacturers.

This is a very nice usable example of the standard model German Armed Forces canteen as carried by members of the Waffen-SS, Army, Navy, etc. with a wide canteen cup on top and a heavy snap hook on the back for attaching it to a belt.

It has an oval shaped body of aluminum covered with wool felt a strap assembly made of leather with metal buckles.

On the back side of this canteen under the strap is the following markings in an embossed circle:

D.R.G.M.
H.R.E. 42
D.R.P. angem.
n

The metal hook on the back is marked Patent Reiter.

As you can see this canteen is in very good used condition.
