NAZI ARMY COLOR ART FOLIO
A LARGE FULL-COLOR
COMBAT ART FOLIO WITH
19 MOUNTED PRINTS CALLED
MALER IM OSTEN
(PAINTERS IN THE EAST)
This is a rare original 10 x 12-5/8 inch Mappe or art folio called Maler im Osten (Painters in the East) containing 19 excellent, colorful pieces of art done by Propagandakompanie artists who accompanied Der Armee Busch (Heeresgruppe Nord, 16. Armee, Generaloberst Ernst Wilhelm Bernhard Busch ) in the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941.
The leather-like folio has a large eagle and swastika emblem imprinted in the center of the front cover. Inside there are 19 individual 9-3/4 x 12-5/8 inch embossed cards with artwork measuring about 6 x 8 inches tipped-on (glued only at the top to the mounting card). Under each piece of artwork is the name of the artist and the name of the painting.
Works in this folio include Strassenkampf in Mariampole (Street Fighting in Mariampole) and Nächtlicher Vormarsch im Osten (Nightly Advance in the East) by Hermann Schardt, Auf dem Weg zur Hauptverbandplatz (On the Way to the Field Hospital) and Flüchtlinge kehren zurück (Refugees Return) by Wilhelm Busch and Artillerie im schwierigen Sumpfgelände (Artillery in Difficult Swampland) by Wilhelm Wendel.
The folio itself is somewhat dirty but the prints and their mounting cards are in excellent condition.
