The huge and heavy 8 inch WMF fork we offer here is one of several pieces we purchased, many, many years ago from a very high-end antique dealer a short distance from Wewelsburg Castle. It is in very good condition and only moderately used.
WMF
Wewelsburg SS silverware
WMF Patent
The pattern of this fork is one of those produced by Württemburgischen Metallwarenfabrik (WMF) in Nazi Germany in the late 1930s and adopted for use by the SS at Heinrich Himmler’s Wewelsburg Castle.
The front side of each handle has as a decoration, the word Wewelsburg impressed in an 8 mm arc above SS runes with a small, fine arc below. On the back of each handle is a WMF logo (the letter W above an M and an F in a square), the word Patent, the number 100 in a rectangle and the number 50 in a diamond.
Our scan on the right is from the
book "Wewelsburg 1933 bis 1945",
an official history of the SS Castle,
and shows seven different pieces of
WMF Wewelsburg silverware from
the Wewelsburg Castle Museum
collection.

All are of the same WMF pattern,
with the same decoration as the one
we offer here, BUT EVEN THE
CASTLE COLLECTION DOES
NOT INCLUDE the very rare
large meat fork!

WMF Hoheitszeichen For those who don’t know about Wewelsburg Castle, Reichsführer SS Heinrich Himmler leased it for one hundred years in 1934 and made it the home of his Knightly Order of Nordic Men - the SS. It contained huge meeting rooms, a library, a weapons collection, the Obergruppenführer Hall, and Consecration Hall.
Consecration Hall was a crypt where Himmler intended to have his body buried when he died. Himmler and his architect envisaged a much larger Wewelsburg that would eventually become the center of his SS World. WMF of Geislingen-Steige was and still is a very well-known German manufacturer of Besteck or tableware. During the Third Reich they also manufactured Hitler busts, huge eagles and swastikas, etc., etc.
