This is a very fine hardcover First Edition of Der Marsch ins Großdeutsche Reich Meilensteine des Dritten Reiches by Alfred Ingemar Berndt. The title translates as “The March towards the Greater German Reich - Milestones of the Third Reich”. The title as well as the foreword by Nazi Foreign Minister Joachim von Ribbentrop explain the subject of this 1939 book:
the rapid enlargement of the country of Germany into the Greater Germany Reich during the past 18 months under the capable leadership of Adolf Hitler. These historic achievements were the reunification of Austria with Nazi Germany, the reincorporation of the ethnic German Sudetenland area in Czechoslovakia and Memel Territory on the Baltic Coast in East Prussia, as well as the founding of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia.

The Nazi expansion is covered in chapters about Austria, ethnic Germans and their desire to be part of Nazi Germany, Nazi Party Day ‘Großdeutschland’, British Prime Minister Chamberlain, Prague, the September 1938 meeting at Bad Godesberg and the Munich Agreement, Benito Mussolini, Czech President Edvard Benes, and Hitler’s personal visits to Prague, Bohemia and Moravia and Memelland, etc..
Der Marsch ins Großdeutsche Reich is dedicated to Konrad Henlein (leader of the Nazi Party in Sudetenland and as of 1 May 1939 the Reichsstatthalter of the Reichsgau Sudetenland), Dr. Enrst Neumann (World War I veteran, politician in the Memelland - SS-Oberführer and recipient of the Golden Party badge), as well as other freedom fighters in the Sudetenland and the Memel Territory.
The author, Alfred-Ingemar Berndt worked for Dr. Joseph Goebbels at the Reichsministerium für Volksaufklärung und Propaganda. Berndt’s career was especially interesting, Deputy of Reichspressechef der NSDAP Otto Dietrich in 1933, in charge of the Press Department at the Nazi Propaganda Ministry, and after volunteering for Wehrmacht duty he fought in France in 1940 and became Erwin Rommel’s aide-de-camp in North Africa. Berndt, along with Dr. Goebbels is credited as being creators of the Rommel Wüstenfuchs myth which the British loved so much they gave the world the English version of the Nazi Propaganda Ministry name for Rommel, ‘the Desert Fox’.
Published in 1939 by Zentralverlag der NSDAP, Franz Eher Nachfolger, the Nazi Party Publishing House in Munich, this 6-1/8 x 8-3/4 inch, 506-page example of Der Marsch ins Großdeutsche Reich has red linen hard covers with gold blocking on the front cover and spine and has a map of the Großdeutsches Reich inside the back cover. The 83 year old book is in very nice condition with a tight spine and no unpleasant odor. It looks unread, the pages are pristine.
