SS MAN PORTRAIT - IN A THEATER MADE FRAME

We bought this wonderful picture and frame years ago in the eastern part of the Großdeutschland of Adolf Hitler, and consider it to be one of the best example of German trench art of World War II that there is.

The 2-1/2 x 7-1/8 inch brown phenolic base is about 1/4 inch thick and is kept by a heavy piece of aluminum measuring approximately 2 x 6-1/2 inches.

In the center of the front of the aluminum piece the words Meine Ehre heißt Treue (My Honor is Loyalty) are engraved about 1-3/4 inches long (see photo below).

Attached to the phenolic / aluminum base are two slotted columns of laminated phenolic measuring about 1-1/4 x 1-3/4 inches and about 9/16 inch thick. The laminations are very thin and the columns were probably cut from a laminated micarta aircraft propellor.

Each column has three narrow aluminum bands embedded in it, as well as a round enamel and silver metal SS insignia about 1/2 inch in diameter.

The 3-1/4 x 5-1/8 inch photograph is an absolutely genuine deckel-edged postcard type photograph of a young SS Man in his Waffen-SS uniform tunic and SS visor cap. He is wearing an Nazi Iron Cross Second Class and a Nazi Infantry Combat Badge in addition to the eagle and swastika and skull and cross bones on his cap and the SS runes on his collar tab.

The picture of the Waffen-SS Sturmmann Anwärter is attached to a piece of photo folder material bearing the name PHOTO-HILDEBRAN [probably DT is cut off] in STUTTGART and is sandwiched between pieces of glass and aluminum.

This item is not marked in any other way. The craftsmanship is very good considering that the frame was made in a theater of war. In very good condition.
