NAZI WEHRMACHT OFFICER HEINRICH ZITZMANN
LOT

This large Third Reich lot contains letters, passes, announcements, train tickets, etc. that belonged to Ing. (engineer) Heinrich (Heinz) Zitzmann of Munich. He went from Wehrmacht Hauptmann to Major during World War II and participated in the 1939 invasion of Poland, the 1940 Nazi invasion in the West and the 1941 Balkanfeldzug.  He even worked as a courier for the German Army High Command between Berlin and Munich.

The lot includes some very unusual items:

- A very rare Army courier ID card number 44 406 issued for use between 2.2.44 and 10.2.44 (2 February 1944 - 10 February 1944) for travel both ways between Berlin and Munich, Germany as issued by the Courier Office of the Chief of Armamens of the Army High Command and signed and stamped by them.

- A First Class Wehrmacht train ticket for Major Zitzmann of the OKW for travel from Munich to Berlin, dated 23 November 1943. The ticket was issued, signed and stamped by the same Major at the Courier Office of the Chief of Armamens of the Army High Command that signed the Kurier-Ausweis above.

- A superb artist executed color Certificate of Promotion to the rank of Hauptmann (Captain) done in the field in Staniatki, Poland and dated 22 October 1939. Measures 10-1/4 x 13-1/2 inches.
Certificate of Promotion to the rank of Hauptmann (Captain) done in the field in Staniatki, Poland and dated 22 October 1939
- An original Tagesbefehl or Order of the Day dated 26 August 1940, announcing the end of fighting after the successful invasion of Holland, Belgium and France. The top section is by General Walther von Brauchitsch congratulating the participants, and the bottom part is by Generalmajor Rudolf Pilz of the 358 Infanterie Division recounting the proud achievements of the men, from a tiny inexperienced part of a division in Poland to one of the most determined soldier group in Belgium (the 358 Infanterie Division was deactivated in Belgium in September of 1940).

- A Passierschein from dated 9 August 1940 giving Hauptmann Zitzmann permission to cross the German-Dutch border between Maastricht and Herzogenrath to prepare for troop tramsports. With eagle and swastika stamp from Dienststelle Feldpost Nr. 12200.
- A September 1940 permission slip for 21 days of vacation for Hauptmann Zitzmann issued at Görlitz by Infanterie-Regiment 644 (Wehrkreiskommando VIII).

- An order from the commander of Motorized Supply Battalion 627 dated 7 May 1941, announcing that as a result of changes of personnel Hauptmann Zitzmann has to sign for construction payments.
- A declaration from the doctor of Motorized Supply Battalion 627 dated 5 June 1941 recapping several medical problems of Hauptmann Heinrich Zitzmann. The doctor states that Zittmann never followed doctor's advice while in active service, not taking himself into consideration during several important campaigns, and that his condition deterioted as a result of the bad climate in the Balkans. The doctor suggested a long leave for recuperation.

- A Sonderausweis (special ID) dated 5 June 1941 that allowed Hauptmann Zitzmann to travel to the Bau-Ersatz-Battalion 7 at Vimykaserne in Freising (outskirts of Munich) where he would be in charge of the transfer of an Ersatz-Truppenteil (Replacement Unit).
- A Sonderausweis (special ID) dated 7 July 1941 that allowed Hauptmann Zitzmann to travel from an Army Hospital in Bregenz to a recuperation home at Ehrwald. The travel permit issued by the Head Doctor of the Reservelazarett Bregenz states that a stop in Munich had to be made to take care of some army business.

- Courier permits from 1943 and 1944 showing that Major Zitzmann traveled between Berlin and Munich as a courier delivering important (sometimes secret) mail (Kurierpost).

- A letter dated 7 February 1944 addressed to Major Zitzmann at the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht-Stabsquartier on the Tirpitzufer 72/76 in Berlin (very near the Bendlerblock) about the location of his brother Otto Zitzmann, who had assumed the post of Wehrmacht Oberzahlmeister.

- An official notice to Zittmann's office on the Tirpitzufer 72/76 in Berlin notifying them of the arrest of Gefreiter Ernst Geschinski.

There is also a 3-page membership list of 131 officers including Major Ing. Zitzmann. The list has names, ranks and addresses of generals, doctors, laywers, salesmen, professors, chemists and even pastors all over Germany. The list is undated but may have to do with the history of one of Zitzmann's units, Zitzmann's work at Jüterbog, or perhaps even a trial.

The lot also includes several Feldpost letters from his wife Gerda containing stories about life during air raids, family members asking for money, receipt of letters and packages, etc.
- Feldpost letter in original envelope sent to Major Heinrich Zitzmann in Berlin by his wife in an envelope from the Paymaster of Wehrkreisverwaltung XIII in Nürnberg. The letter has a NÜRNBERG die Stadt der Reichsparteitage cancelation with swastika dated 3 February 1944, one of hte latest we have ever seen on a Feldpost envelope.
- Feldpost letters in original envelopes from his wife Gerda who moved from Munich to Nussdorf am Inn, near Rosenheim in Bavaria. They were sent in April, November and December of 1944 when Major Heinrich Zitzmann was stationed at the important Heeresstandortverwaltung (Army Administration Post) in Jüterbog south of Berlin.

Very rare OKW / OKH material that is worthy of far more research to determine the sort of engineering work Major Zitzmann was involved in for the Army High Command at Jüterbog, in Berlin, and elsewhere. Good used condition.
