Under the motto “Get to Know Germany”, Universum-Verlagsanstalt of Berlin Tempelhof in cooperation with German Tourist Authorities, published softcover pocket-size books called Deutschland Bildhefte containing photos of cities, regions and historic tourist sites in Nazi Germany. This is Deutschland Bildheft, Nr. 299 called Rhein-Main Land der Bäder und des Weines (Rhine-Main, Land of Health Spas and Wine).

The 4-1/8 x 5-5/8 inch, 48 page book has an introduction about the area, and on page 4 it is printed in English and in Dutch. It highlights the economic and cultural aspects of the area around the confluence of the Rhine and Mainz rivers.

The photo pages show a modern Nazi Zeppelin, ancient buildings and churches in cities like Frankfurt, Worms, Limburg and Darmstadt, romantic castles in the Taunus Mountains, Loreley, sturdy farmers, half-timbered houses in Rüdesheim, women picking wine grapes, beautiful scenery, statues, etc.

While historical houses, squares and sights in Frankfurt are pictured, the large and modern I.G. Farbenindustrie (makers of Zyklon B) building is also shown, as is the Zeppelin in front of a hangar at Rhein-Main airport in Frankfurt. There are also photos of the Opel car factory, and men at work at the Leitz optical works.

Inside the front and back cover is advertising for other Deutschland Bildhefte published by Universum-Verlagsanstalt.

The frequently missing (often torn out) postcards are still inside the front and back cover. We doubt this Deutschland Bildheft Nr. 299 was ever used, it is in excellent condition, no offensive odor.
