Deutschland zwischen Nacht und Tag (Germany between Night and Day) by Friedrich Heiss is a fine heavily illustrated Third Reich hardcover book with photos, maps, tables, and graphs that explains the misery and unemployment that plagued Germany after World War I, and as a result of the Treaty of Versailles, and the powerful nation the country is said to be turning into as a result of its National Socialist government. A nation that went from "night to day" due the vision of the Nazi leadership, a political party that cared for all its citizens, not just the wealthy and decadent elite.

The message of Deutschland zwischen Nacht und Tag is that national labor programs that created employment and income for formerly unemployed people resulted in a better standard of living and an increased birth rate in the country. That, with the help of the German people, the country would emerge from the dark days of the 1920s and become a wealthy, respected and healthy nation again, under the guidance of its leader, Adolf Hitler.
Photos show people living in squalor, communist street battles, anti-German demonstrations in England, efforts of the Austrian government to suppress the Nazi Party, military equipment, big Nazi rallies with seas of swastika flags, SS formations marching, airplanes taking part in the August 1933 Deutschlandflug, Hitler Youth gatherings, the new Tannenberg Monument, Hitler at the 1933 Reichsparteitag of Victory in Nuremberg, the 10th anniversary of the Nazi Putsch in Munich (attended by Hitler, Goering, Rosenberg, Streicher and many other Nazi dignitaries), Hitler addressing huge crowds of farmers and factory workers all over Germany, the first stretches of the Reichsautobahn under construction, Winterhilfswerk Nazi charity collections, the Reichschancellery in Berlin, Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels addressing the foreign press, historic buildings all over Germany, the busy port of Danzig, air travel by plane and Zeppelin, German scenery, sport facilities and competitions for German boys and girls, obligatory service for young women of the Arbeitsdienst, etc.
There are tables and graphs showing the increase in industrial output, votes for the NSDAP, increase in birthrate, military equipment, etc. Short poems accompany the illustrations, some of them by Baldur von Schirach from Die Fahne der Verfolgten.
The photos are by the Associated Press, Heinrich Hoffmann, Keystone View Co., Erich Retzlaff, London News Agency, Erna Lendvai-Dircksen, UfA, Dr. Paul Wolff, and many others, all carefully listed in the back of the book.
