Die neue Heimat, vom Werden der nationalsozialistischen Kulturlandschaft (The New Homeland - the Creation of the National Socialist Cultural Landscape) is a 1940 Nazi photo book assembled by Gauleiter Fritz Wächtler head of the NS-Lehrerbund, the Nazi Teacher's Association (and NSDAP-Gauleiter of the Bayerische Ostmark).
Wächtler also wrote the patriotic foreword in which he focusses on what the National Socialist leadership of Germany has done for the country since 1933, not just economically but also for the cultural life of its citizens. A transformation and a cultural shift due to the genius of Adolf Hitler, according to Wächtler. He says the photos in Die neue Heimat show the cultural will of the peaceful German people, cultural beauty and new building techniques worth defending from foreign influences during the first year of World War II.
Die neue Heimat has only a few pages of text, it is filled with page after page of photos of National Socialist architecture showing Hitler's vision for Nazi Germany. Ambitious construction in large cities, but also projects impacting the German countryside. There are photos of NSDAP buildings such as the New Reichschancellery, Nazi monuments, Hitler Youth homes and the Reichautobahn blending with local scenery, the Olympic stadium in Berlin, beautiful alpine homes and farms as well as modern, functional homes built for German factory workers.
Die neue Heimat also contains comparison photos of dilapidated, outdated buildings contrasted with the way they look after being rebuilt and modernized. There is a chapter on modern industrial facilities (including the huge new Volkswagen factory at Fallersleben) and new Nazi construction to increase tourism to Nazi Germany; new airports, freeways with modern rest stops for travelers (including Chiemsee), health spas, youth hostels, swim and ski venues. Even modernizing agriculture and border defense construction like the Westwall bunkers and anti-tank "dragon teeth" are explained and shown.
This is a Second Edition (11 - 20,000) of Die neue Heimat published by Deutscher Volksverlag of Munich in 1940. The 79 year old, 8-3/8 x 9 inch hardcover book has 200 glossy photo pages, is complete and in very good used condition. Slight wear to the spine and fading to the covers, no odor.
