This is a 23-3/8 x 28-1/8 inch old golden picture frame that we purchased in Wyoming a long time ago. It contains a black velvet field with over 100 dried Edelweiss flowers and a picture about 4 x 5-½ inches of a SS Gebirgsjäger in cold weather clothing. The only insignia in the picture is his Gebirgsjäger Mütze or cap and its skull and bones SS emblem. The young Nazi Mountain Trooper is not identified.

The picture has been around for a long time as you see it and we have no actual knowledge of how it got to Wyoming in the first place.

We can tell from close inspection that the old European frame, its glass and the Edelweiss decorated velvet background are all original. The tan paper on the backside of the picture frame is of a popular, but obsolete European type with narrow lines in one direction that have almost the same color as the lines they separate.

As you can see the condition of the Edelweiss themselves is excellent as, for many decades, the glass has applied a constant pressure to them against the black velvet background.

The general condition of the entire ensemble is very good with only the corners of the frame being somewhat beat up from years of improper handling. Some of the color and some of the detail in the moldings at the corners is missing but if the new owner desired, these can be touched up to be much less obvious in any competent picture framing shop.

SHIPPING: we can’t ship the picture outside the continental United States out of consideration for the item itself and the possibility that it might be broken. We will put the item in an oversized box between layers of bubble pack material and instruct the USPS, UPS or FedEx to keep the box vertical, and it should arrive anywhere in the mainland in the condition shipped. We have recently received pictures from a friend in the Boston area shipped to South Dakota the same way with no problem. For reference, the shipping box will measure about 30 x 36 x 4 inches and weigh around 12 pounds. We will quote shipping cost to the buyer when we find out when we find out where the picture is being sent. Depending on location we estimate the cost will be between $35.00 and $65.00.
