This book, Kampf um Berlin - Der Anfang (The Battle for Berlin - The Beginning) by Dr. Joseph Goebbels was a Third Reich bestseller and reprinted many, many times. We have seen examples from the 19th edition published in 1941, but the fine hardcover example we are selling on this USMBOOKS web page is from the 9th Edition dated 1936 as published by the Nazi Party Publishing House Verlag Franz Eher Nachfolger, GmbH of München.

The book has advertising for other Goebbels and Verlag Franz Eher Nachfolger books in the back. The design of the original 85 year old dust jacket is by Mjölnir as well and has advertising for Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf on the front flap. It is in rather poor condition, however, the book itself is in superb condition and looks like it was never read. The linen cover shows no wear, the spine is tight and the book has no odor.

The 5-1/8 x 7-1/2 inch well-illustrated hardcover with 288 glossy pages has an excellent text and a wide variety of photos from the Kampfzeit der Partei, the early ‘battle days’ of the Nazi Party, and drawings by Mjölnir (graphic artist Hans Schweitzer). Goebbels dedicated Kampf um Berlin to his old Berliner Nazi Party comrades (Goebbels was the early Nazi Gauleiter of Berlin).

There is a rare photo of Kurt Daluege as Gau SA Führer, long before he ever imagined he’d become Chief of the Ordnungspolizei and a Oberstgruppenführer in the SS. Other photos show early NSDAP offices in Berlin, early gatherings of the Party faithful in Berlin, Nazi Party posters for Berlin, Nazi newspaper advertising as well as examples of early editorial cartoons.
