This is a very interesting German photo publication called Hermann Göring am Obersalzberg (Hermann Göring on the Obersalzberg) which starts with a short biography of the famous World War I Ace and World War II Field Marshal and background information on the construction of Landhaus Goering, the beautiful alpine chalet very near Adolf Hitler’s Berghof on the Obersalzberg above Berchtesgaden.

The book is filled with many photos accompanied by short captions in the German language, as well as an architectural drawing of the house and air raid bunker system below it. The private pictures show Hermann Göring with his wife Emmy and daughter Edda, shoveling snow, skiing, playing curling, hunting, on car rides during summer, with his pet lion cub, hiking with Hitler, with Baldur von Schirach and Joachim von Ribbentrop, etc. There are pictures of public and private rooms in Landhaus Goering, including Emmy Göring’s bedroom and the special-order large-size bathtub.

There is also a photo section on the Adjutant Building built a few hundred meters from Göring’s house. It contained a large private apartment for General Karl Bodenschatz who was the liaison officer between Hermann Göring and Adolf Hitler in World War II.

The 8-1/4 x 11-5/8 inch, 44-page softcover book ends with postwar photos the the Göring chalet in ruins. It was hit during an Allied air raid on 25 April 1945, plundered by servicemen and local citizens, and torn down in 1952. Many of the photos came from private collections and were never seen before the publication of this book.

This 1991 First Edition of Hermann Göring am Obersalzberg was published in Berchtesgaden by Century-Verlag Florian M. Beierl and is in very nice, little used condition. Complete with a tight spine and no offensive odor. Hard to find!
