This is a very nice hardcover First American edition of Hitler at my Side written by Adolf Hitler’s pilot Lieutenant General Hans Baur who autographed the book in blue ink on the title page.

Published in German as Mit Machtigen zwischen Himmel und Erde (With Powerful People between Heaven and Earth), this is an English language translation published by Eichler Publishing Corporation in Houston, Texas USA.

When Adolf Hitler decided to use an airplane on the political campaign trail in 1932, Hans Baur became his pilot. When Hitler personally selected Baur as his official pilot in 1933 he was released from his pilot job at Lufthansa and was given the task of expanding and organizing Hitler's personal squadron and the Nazi German government "flying group”.

Hitler at my Side contains personal eyewitness accounts of Adolf Hitler's daily activities and conversations. It is unique because as his private pilot and personal friend, Bavarian-born Baur was in Hitler's presence practically every day from 1933 to 1945 and a member of Hitler’s "inner circle” (Hitler was his best man when Baur was married in 1936 in Hitler’s Munich apartment!).

This AUTOGRAPHED 6-1/8 x 8-3/4 inch , 256 page dark blue linen hardcover example of Hitler at my Side has gold blocking on the spine and comes with its original dust jacket and orange page marker ribbon. The 36 year old book is in very nice, little used condition.

At the end of World War II Baur was with Hitler in the Führerbunker in Berlin but was unsuccessful in convincing Hitler to leave. After the Führer’s suicide, he left the Reichschancellery with Martin Bormann and several others and during the escape attempt, Baur was shot in the leg. The wound was so serious that his right lower leg was later amputated in Posen on 10 June 1945, while a Soviet prisoner-of-war. Considered a ‘valuable prisoner’, he was taken to the Soviet Union and imprisoned there for ten years. He was released on 10 October 1955 to France where he spent more years in prison until his release 1957.

The book has 28 pages of photos printed on glossy paper which show Baur in his World War I pilot suit and uniform, wearing his Lufthansa pilot uniform, in his World War II Nazi SS General’s uniform, in Adolf Hitler’s Munich apartment on his wedding day, with Hitler, Goebbels and Goering on the campaign trail in 1932, with Kriegsmarine hero Günther Prien, at Le Bourget in Paris with Field Marshal Erhard Milch, General Ernst Udet and General Bodenschatz, with “his close friend” Rudolf Hess, with Hitler and his crew at Winniza in Ukraine, flying Benito Mussolini to the Eastern Front to meet up with Hitler, piloting a Condor Fw-200 in 1942, flying Hitler and Field Marshal von Brauchitsch to the Nazi Eastern Front HQ in a Fieseler ‘Storch’ aircraft, the interior of Hitler’s Ju-290, etc. There are also several pictures taken when Baur returned to Germany after his time as a POW, including one with his elderly mother.
