This very nice multi-piece Third Reich Nazi Eisernes Kreuz I. Klasse (Iron Cross First Class) was brought back to the United States after World War II service by an American Sergeant who served in combat with a Separate Engineer Regiment in Europe during World War II. We are offering it just exactly as we bought it.

This Iron Cross First Class or EK I  has never been to a MAX or other militaria show or in the hands of a collector after May 1945 until we purchased it from the estate of a local GI recently.

The Iron Cross 1st Class was an important German medal of valor and was awarded for bravery in battle as well as other military contributions in a battlefield environment. It was a pin-on medal and was worn centered on a uniform breast pocket and was worn with great pride by everyone to whom it was awarded, from the newest Landser to the most senior general..  It is among the most recognizable of any military medal ever made.  Photos on the right and below is for reference only.

This fine Iron Cross measures 45 mm from side-to-side and has over 95% of its original dull black finish on the non-magnetic center and an even patina on the German silver pin, back, and frame. Some of the bright silver plating on the back side is still visible beneath the pin.

The medal is unmarked but is still cased in its 100% original black leather-like hinged box with a working spring-loaded, push-button catch and a silver Iron Cross outline on the top. The hinge and push-button work fine. Both the interior and exterior of the box are in excellent original condition.

This is an absolutely honest, genuine World War II Nazi Iron Cross First Class in very nice condition, untouched for decades and with most of its original paint and patina. You could easily pay twice our asking price for a similar unmarked Iron Cross 1st Class on several of the big-name militaria websites right now!
