Karl Schäfer was a famous figure skater who won Olympic gold medals in the 1932 (Lake Placid) and 1936 (Garmisch-Partenkirchen) Winter Olympics as well as many European Champion medals between 1929 and 1936. He was even a figure skating coach in the USA in 1936 and between 1956 and 1962.
In 1940 Schäfer founded the Karl-Schäfer-Eisrevue in Nazi Germany with figure skater / trainer Herta Wächter. This is an original program produced for visitors to the Karl Schäfer Ice Revue that took place the evening of Wednesday 20 January 1943 at the Kunsteisbahn Engelmann in Vienna (still in business today!).
This 4-panel, 4 x 6 inch program lists the names of all the participants in the different acts (including Schäfer and Herta Wächter) of his Ice Skating Revue and it is mentioned at the bottom of page 2 they are all Deutsche Reichsangehörige or German citizens! The back panel has directions on what to do in case of Fliegeralarm or Allied air raids.
