These Third Reich Ausweise der deutschen Volksliste identification documents were issued to ethnic Germans who were born or resided in Nazi occupied Poland between September 1939 and early winter 1945. These people with provable German ancestry automatically became German nationals because of their "German ethnicity."

This rare rare 4-panel, 4-1/8 x 5-5/8 inch Ausweis der deutschen Volksliste was issued to Traugott Hanelt, born on 27 February 1875 in Olechow, a small village on the outskirts east of Litzmannstadt. When this Nazi ID was issued on 28 July 1941, Hanelt was a 66 year old salesman living in Gauhauptstadt Posen, a large city between Berlin and Warsaw on the Warta River (today it is Poznan, Poland).

This original Ausweis der deutschen Volksliste, issued by Die Zweigstelle der deutschen Volksliste in Posen, still has the original ID photo of Traugott Hanelt (Traugott means “loyal to God”). The WW2 Lichtbild is overstamped in two corners with the rubber stamp of the Gauhauptstadt Posen. On the front cover on the lower left corner in the parenthesis is the printing date of the document (4 41) followed by the words Reichsdrückerei Berlin, the State Printing Office in Berlin.

Very hard to find in any condition, this Ausweis der deutschen Volksliste with a taped spine shows honest use and is guaranteed to be absolutely original to the Third Reich period in Greater Germany.
