RARE NAZI TRAVEL AGENT GUIDE BOOKS FOR GREATER GERMANY OCTOBER 1939 - 14 POUNDS!

We can say without question that this huge two-volume set of travel agent directories contains more information about Third Reich Germany than any other source available. The books have listings, photographs and information for virtually every town and city in Adolf Hitler's Großdeutschland.

The books are titled Reichs-Handbuch der deutschen Fremdenverkehrsorte (State Hand Book - German Tourist Traffic Destinations) and subtitled Wegweiser durch Deutschland für Kür, Reise und Erholung (Directory of Germany for Health Spas, Tourist Travel and Recreation).

The first volume (Erster Band) is the 11th edition of 1 October 1939 with the supplement of "Germany's New Eastern Territories" (including the Sudetengau). The second volume (Zweiter Band) is also dated 1 October 1939 and has the special supplement for Protektorat Böhmen und Mähren or Bohemia and Moravia in Czechoslovakia which became part of the German Reich on 16 March 1939.

The first of the two hardcover books measures about 9-¼ x 12-1/4 inches, is over 2-½ inches thick!. It contains thousands of photos on its 1374 very heavily illustrated pages. The second of the two hardcover books also measures 9-¼ x 12-1/4 inches, has 984 very heavily illustrated pages and is just under 2 inches thick. The two volumes together cover 7500 places in Großdeutschland (Greater Germany) and contain over 5000 photographs!

These fabulous books are a little-known time capsule of Hitler's Third Reich. There is information about highways, the Reichsautobahn, each of the various "Lands" or states in Germany, lists of doctors and their clinics, a list of all the newspapers in Germany that had a travel section, and even a comprehensive overview of the Reichspost bus service providing scheduled transportation to even the tiniest towns.

The basic content of this set of books is a town-by-town, city-by-city list of everything there was to do or see in the Germany of Adolf Hitler, from Aachen to Zwota. Each listing typically contains a brief overview of the history of the place, population and economic data, information about schools and famous citizens, industries, as well as the names and addresses and phone numbers of hotels and tourist attractions. The enormous detail contained in these books is absolutely amazing.

These 1939 travel agent books also contain chapters titled "German Tourism in War and Peace Time" and "German Hospitality during the War".

Photos range from seaside resort beaches to alpine ski resorts, spas, museums, castles, big cities and picturesque small villages as well as the Kriegsmarine monument at Kiel-Laboe, Tannenberg Memorial, Hitler Youth boys on horseback, Adolf Hitler Square in Potsdam, Ordensburg Vogelsang, Nürnberg - Stadt der Reichsparteitage, Braunau on the Inn River, Linz, Lambach and Leonding where Hitler spent his early years.

The Berlin section includes a photo of the New Reichschancellery and State Opera. At the time Berlin (884 square km with 4.3 million inhabitants) was the third largest city in the world. Only New York and Tokyo were larger.

This rare set of 76 year old Nazi travel agent directories is perfect for anyone writing on the subject of Third Reich Germany or advanced collectors of Third Reich material. Both books are in good used condition, and the overall condition of the contents is very good.
