This is the real thing - an authentic Third Reich collar tab removed from the SS uniform of a soldier that surrendered to men of the US 325 Parachute Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division, at around Christmas time 1944 near Manhay, Belgium. We knew the American Sergeant (now deceased) who removed this collar tab from the uniform of the captured SS trooper.
The 1-1/2 x 2 inch (38 x 50 mm) collar tab has two 1-1/4 inch (30 mm) runes woven into the surface of cloth material which has a horizontal cord woven into the black when it is in place on a collar. The edges of the black material do not have the cord woven into them. The black material was folded over and glued to a very coarsely woven stiff material which creates the shape of the collar tab. Each of the runes is woven in such a way that it has a narrow border of the silver grey thread around it.An identical collar tab can be found on page 34 of the Ulrich of England book “SS Regalia” (Chartwell Books, Edison New Jersey, 1996).
Our pictures show this SS collar tab exactly as it is. Very good used condition.
