This is a very rare beautifully illustrated brochure called Wien tanzt (Vienna Dances) published for Fasching or Carnival (like Mardi Gras in New Orleans) in Vienna in February 1939. The 7-3/4 x 8-1/4 inch, soft cover, 14 page booklet contains the names of dance events from 4 February until 22 February 1939, all with theme illustrations.
The Ball der Stadt Wien (7 February 1939) shows women in evening gowns and men in coattails, the Film Ball (11 February 1939) shows people in theatrical costumes, the Jäger Ball (13 February) shows men in hunting attire with rifles, the Roter-Kreuz-Ball of 14 February 1939 has the Nazi Red Cross logo with a red swastika on the breast of the eagle, the Opernball (18 February 1939) shows people in very fancy evening attire, etc. There were dances for students, artists, people from Tyrol and there was even a dance on 18 February for Sudetendeutschen!
Very few of these 71 year old brochures have survived. This example has a fold in the middle and is in very good used condition.
