TWO EXAMPLES OF
,,DAS HERRENJOURNAL’’
THE BEST THIRD REICH
MEN’S FASHION MAGAZINE

We offer here two very good examples of the best Third Reich men’s fashion magazine ,,Das Herrenjournal’’ as published by Freiherr von Eelking in Hannover, Germany in 1941. They are the big, 9-3/4 x 12-3/4 inch issues of March and April 1941.

The March issue has horses on the cover and contains 46 colorful pages of articles of interest to men, advertising, social news and photographs. Those making the news in March included SS-Oberlandstallmeister Dr. H. Seyffert, the Polizeipräsident of Berlin SA-Obergruppenführer Graf Helldorff (wearing his unusual SA Leaders or Feldherrnhalle dagger), Cavalry General Kayser, Walther Darré, etc. (the picture of Darré shows him wearing a SS Honor Ring).

Articles include one on ancient playing cards, one on soldier-artist Ernst Kretschmann, top coats and hats, filming animals in nature, ice hockey, etc. There is a superb full-page military vehicle ad for Ford vehicles (shown below left), and several ads with tipped-in samples.

The April issue of 32 pages has a spectacular Ernst Kretschmann painting of Luftwaffe Fighter Pilot Albin Frank on the front cover in his flying attire and wearing a pistol. It was painted on the occasion of Frank’s shooting down of his 24th enemy aircraft.

Articles include one on the “Honor Clothing of Soldiers”, hunting with falcons, history of pipe tobacco, the “Coppa Mussolini” for riding, etc. People in the news include General Walther von Reichenau, Knights Cross of the Iron Cross Winner Major Heinz Cramer, Adolf Galland hunting, and a full-page picture of Hitler in honor of his April birthday.

Great Third Reich advertising for everything from brandy to shoes and neckties.

This sort of Third Reich consumer publication is extremely rare sixty years after the fact. Complete and in very good condition.
