This is a nice used example of the heavily illustrated 1939 appointment book for law enforcement personnel in Nazi Germany.
This 1 x 3 x 4-7/8 inch, 500+ page pocket calendar was produced by a man named Möller who worked at the main office of the Ordnungspolizei at the Prussian Ministry of the Interior in cooperation with people at the Sicherheitspolizei, and miscellaneous members of the Law Court.
It was published by Adolf Sponholtz Verlag in Hannover in 1938 and owned by a SS Mann from St. Pölten, Germany who wrote his name and address on the Merktafel on page 11 (photo left).
The book starts with foreword by Chef der Ordnungspolizei SS-Obergruppenführer und General der Polizei Kurt Daluege followed by 10 ground rules for members of the police and a comprehensive index.
It contains leadership information of the SA, SS and paramilitary organizations as well as in-depth information about police pay groups, ranks and promotions, taxes, uniforms and uniform allowances, weapons, the SS / police sword and service in units such as the Sicherheitsdienst or SD, Kriminalpolizei or Kripo, Geheime Staatspolizei or Gestapo, etc.
There are color sections of police, army and Luftwaffe uniforms, helmets, visor caps and insignia as well as specialized Nazi flags from the SA and Führer Standard to those of the Hitler Youth (HJ) and the Reichsminister of Aviation. A single page depicts the headgear, cuff titles and rank insignia of the SS.
The book also contains a day-by-day calendar for the year 1939 and advertising for police related products such as typewriters, daggers, insurance, medals and orders, etc. In the back there is an order form for the 1940 Merkbuch für den deutschen Polizeivollzugsbeamten.
This Nazi police pocket book / calendar is complete and in good used condition. The original owner, the SS man who wrote his name and address on page 11, made notes in pencil on the blank pages for that purpose in the back. The SS-Mann did not write in the calendar portion of this Merkbuch. It was carried in a uniform pocket and as a result has signs of wear inside and out and some water staining. Comes with a small original A.W. Faber pencil.
