This is a nice example of the 6-1/4 x 9-1/2 inch, 48 page heavily illustrated soft cover book Der Westwall by Hauptmann of the OKH R.T. Kühne as published by J.F. Lehmanns Verlag of München-Berlin in 1939.
With 50 drawings, maps and rare photographs this excellent book begins with descriptions of modern fortified cities like Fort Manteuffel at Metz and Festung Strassburg to explain the history of the Maginot Line and Germany’s Westwall defenses.
It explains how Hitler threw off the constraints of the Versailles Treaty to build the Westwall (Siegfried Line) in what had been the demilitarized zone in Germany facing France’s formidable Maginot Line.
