This is a very nice example of the rare 8-3/4 x 9-3/4 inch, 200+ page book Feuer und Farbe (Fire and Color) by Walther Tröge as published by Wilhelm Frick Verlag in Wien (Vienna) in 1943.

Beginning with a six-page overview of the subject of war and art, this book goes on in a short text to describe the new face of war.

That short text is followed by an excellent index to the 155 color (four) and back & white reproductions of paintings depicting every aspect of troops engaged in combat. Each picture provides the name of the painting as well as the full name of the painter. Many of these pieces of art are instantly recognizable, but almost nobody knows their names.

There are paintings by Eichhorst, Staeger, Elk Eber, Siebert, Matejko, Thöny, Janesch, Hengge, Handel-Mazetti, Sauter, Padua, Wolf Willrich, Engelhardt-Kyffhäuser, Martin-Amorbach, Ahrens, Tschech, Jahn, Werner, Lipus, Dallinger, Gemm, Kaspar, Seidel, Hartmann, Buchheim, Unger, Spiegel, Strobl, Krause, Trenk, Schreiber, Claus Bergen, and others.

Hard to find. Very good condition other than dings to the bottom front corners of the cover.
