We are not going to talk down to you about this dagger like the big Nazi dagger dealers do, with a lot of poppycock about “crisp” this and “sexy” that or “muted” this or “stunning” that. Rather, we have done our best to depict the dagger as accurately as possible in photographs and as always, we are happy to answer any question about it that may arise. Overall, this Third Reich dagger is in very nice absolutely original condition with the possible exception of the tan leather piece between the blade and the hand guard, which looks like it may have been replaced at one time.
The bright nickel plated blade has no knicks and has its original point and only very light wear on the flat center surfaces. It is stamped on one side with the PUMA SOLINGEN logo. The cross guard is made of brass and a good deal of the original silver plating is worn through in places. The pommel is either brass or some sort of white metal, we can’t tell, but the pieces are clearly shown in our photos. The handle has its original leather covering and original twisted wire wrap.
The scabbard hardware is either German silver, nickel or plated brass and is in excellent condition with all five original head-less screws. The leather on the front side of the scabbard is in nice condition and that on the back is all there and firmly attached but has surface cracks in it.
The chain and snap hook that attach to the two scabbard rings are aluminum. The snap hook is stamped with Overhoff logo and the words GES. GESCH. This is a nice 75 year old dagger in precisely the condition the vet brought it home in. This Nazi dagger has never been in the hands of a collector or messed with by a dealer so you can be sure that it is an original, and is not something assembled from dagger parts you often see in boxes on the tables of well-known dealers at the big militaria shows.
