The two paintings offered for sale on this USMBOOKS web page were acquired by us years ago in a trade and we know little about their origins. The pictures apparently belonged together as they are identically framed and were doubtless painted by the same artist as they are both painted on canvas covered board with near identical backs. The paintings are done in an old fashion, with a heavy layer of varnish giving them quite a smooth finish. Each is hung from a ring in a silver frame in typical European fashion, and each bears a rubber stamp on the back which says PROFESSOR HEINR. MICHAËLIS MÜNCHEN.

depicts them in splendid color in a battle in the ruins of a building. We actually know more about this painting because we found that the original was shown in an exhibition in 1944 called Die Deutsche Künstler und die SS as number 9403. The original painting was the work of Will Tschech, and he called it Waffen-SS im Kampf. We have a photographic postcard (shown below for reference) apparently purchased at the exhibition of the original, and dated 10 July 1944. We are certain that ours is a copy of the original painting, and we believe that the original painting was probably destroyed during the war.
Once again, the detail is splendid and very convincing from the camo helmet covers and smocks to the collar insignia, and details of the MP40, the hand grenade and the Mauser rifle. Measurements are shown next to the picture. |

shows the Reichsführer-SS standing with his arms crossed under a gray foreboding sky, with his overcoat lying nearby. The detail in this painting is exceptional showing Himmler's gold Nazi Party pin, pilot's badge, wrist watch, SS ring, and wedding ring in addition to his cap and collar insignia, pistol holster, and Blood Order ribbon.
