ORIGINAL THIRD REICH WHW OR
WINTERHILFSWERK MEMENTOS
In Nazi Germany the Winterhilfswerk (Winter Charity Campaign or WHW) collection campaigns took place each winter and raised a great deal of money for charitable purposes. It was common practice for those who collected the contributions to give donors a small memento to show appreciation for their contribution, and by wearing the memento it was obvious the donor had contributed money.
Some WHW mementos are superb pieces of art, some printed booklets and others are very simple. Some include semiprecious stones and some are beautifully embroidered. All have been collected since the day they were made and are very much sought after today. Each lot below is priced separately so be sure to order by lot number only.

| WHW Lot 4d (above) - contains 5 WHW collectibles from June 1941 VDA charity collection called Wappen deutscher Grenzstädte. These plastic pieces all have the city Wappen or coat of arms of cities near German borders on them, and this lot includes the rare Malmédy piece (Malmédy is now in Belgium). Each measures 1-1/2 inches tall, two pieces still have the original Third Reich strings attached. Condition exactly as shown. |
| WHW Lot 7d (above) - the eight original multi-color wooden pieces from the 1942 WHW series called Deutsche Bauernhäuser we offer here measure 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 inches and show different style farm houses from different areas of Großdeutschland or Greater Germany. Condition exactly as shown. Three pieces still have their original Nazi era strings attached. |
| WHW Lot 3a (above) - the nine original WHW pins in this lot have a heavy chipboard back to which a gray frame is attached which contains a Bevo-type woven image of German soldiers in historic military uniforms. These pieces from the 1938 Uniform und Geschichte series measure about 2 inches in height and all nine still have the original pinback. Condition exactly as shown. |
| WHW Lot 3d (above) - the six original March 1940 Winterhilfswerk Glasabzeichen or glass badges measuring 1-1/4 inches in diameter. Each convex piece of glass had a relief of an animal impressed into the flat back side which was then either etched or sandblasted. The flat portion of the back was later lapped and polished. Each contains a different animal: a fish, a lizard, bee, ladybug, grasshopper or cricket. Each medallion has a small hole drilled at the top to accommodate a string. All but one of the glass pieces still have the original Third Reich string attached. Condition exactly as shown. |
| WHW Lot 19 consists of nine original Nazi era metal WHW pins from 1939 in the shape of different animals. All these WHW Tierabzeichen still have their original colored 'eyes' which are actually set with prongs like in real jewelry. Very well-made pieces in good condition, exactly as shown. The 1 inch tall bird, 2nd to the left in our picture, is the only piece which no longer has its original safetypin back. |
| WHW Lot 9b consists of 11 original Nazi WHW-Abzeichen, including the plastic 1940/41 Gau Niederdonau flamingo in the upper right corner which is 1-1/4 inch tall and has its original pinback. The rare plastic long beaver with original pinback is 1-1/2 inches long and the plastic HJ runner is1-5/8 inches tall. The five colorful plastic flower WHW pieces come without their originall strings. Condition exactly as shown. |
| WHW Lot 6 consists of five original Nazi era hand painted WHW plastic figures from February 1940: a policeman on a motorcycle and one on horseback, a policeman in a parade uniform, a traffic cop (1-3/4 inches tall), and a motorized policeman without his motorcycle. The two WHW Abzeichen on the right still have their origial Third Reich strings attached. Condition exactly as shown. WHW Lot 12 (left) - consists of seven original plastic WHW military navy collectibles in very good condition. The U-Boot piece in the middle is 2-1/4 inches long. Condition exactly as shown.

Each handpainted piece is about 1-3/4 inches tall and comes with the original Third Reich pin still attached to the back (except for the two end pieces). Conditiona as shown. |
WHW Lot 213 (above & below) - consists of nine 100% original Third Reich metal, wood and plastic WHW mementoes, all with their original pins on the back. To give you an idea of size, the round 1938 Adolf Hitler pin on the lower right is just over 1 inch in diameter. The 1935 Tag der Arbeit pin is 1-3/4 inches tall.
